StampNews.com is glad to inform our readers that Lithuanian Postal Service is ready to issue a new Culinary Heritage postage stamp with one of the oldest desserts from Lithuanian cuisine depicted on it – Cucumbers with Honey.
The new postage stamp has been created by the artist Aušrelė Ratkevičienė.The stamp has been issued in the edition of 500 thousand copies and with the nominal value of EUR 0.39.
“Each year, inviting residents to propose topics for stamps that will be issued in the future, we get suggestions to commemorate various dishes of Lithuanian cuisine: from the traditional potato dumplings to a cold beetroot soup. Presenting gastronomic heritage of Lithuania, we release a postage stamp, which immortalize the highly liked dessert by dukes and kings – cucumbers with honey.
Postal items with the new stamp affixed on them will spread throughout the world. It will be an opportunity for foreigners to familiarize with the traditional Lithuanian cuisine and once they will get interested – to discover the taste of cucumbers with honey," Director of Sales of Lithuania Post Aurimas Čiagus said.
Cucumbers with honey – one of the oldest Lithuanian cuisine desserts known since the XIV century. According to historians, this delicacy was highly appreciated in the estate of the Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland Jogaila.
In the course of a year, Lithuania Post releases on average 25-27 postage stamps. Lithuania Post also provides courier, logistic, and financial intermediation services.
