Amsterdam, the lively city and Capital of Holland, will be the heart of EuroPride in the year 2016. The EuroPride will be a festival of 16 days with a broad program of Arts & Culture, Sports, Debate and Religious activities the visitors of which celebrate their freedom and fight for equal rights within EU.
StampNews.com is glad to inform that on this occasion PostNL is issuing the 'EuroPride Amsterdam 2016' commemorative stamp sheet. PostNL board member Marcel Krom presented the first stamp sheet to Minister of Education, Culture and Science Jet Bussemaker prior to the Human Rights Concert at Amsterdam's Dam Square.
The new stamp sheet features a man and woman, depicted in a white circle in front of a pink background. Illustrator Piet Paris' design accentuates the rainbow flag as a symbol of the gay pride movement. The stars in the design refer to the European flag.
The EuroPride event has been hosted by a different major European city every year since 1992. This year, EuroPride will be celebrated together with the 20th anniversary of Amsterdam Gay Pride, which PostNL has actively supported for a decade. PostNL will not only join in this year's boat parade through Amsterdam's canals. It will also wrap 27 post boxes in Amsterdam in pink foil. They will be on display along the Canal Parade route for two weeks starting on 23 July.
Two other post boxes will be wrapped in pink in Tilburg in honour of the Pink Monday celebration at the Tilburg Fair. Marcel Krom on PostNL's diversity policy: "The Netherlands places a high value on freedom, diversity and emancipation. We at PostNL also emphasise that every employee, regardless of their background, gender, age, opinions, religion or sexual orientation can be themselves at PostNL. The EuroPride celebration in Amsterdam is an excellent opportunity for us to show our convictions".
