The Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) is an annual event in Singapore to celebrate the achievements of youths in co-curricular activities. It remains one of the most important and relevant platforms that celebrates the rich diversity of youth talent in schools.
StampNews.com is glad to inform our readers that to celebrateу 50th anniversary of the organization Singapore Post issued energetic and artistic Commemorative Stamp Series themed YOUTHforia! that comprises five designs symbolising the dynamism and energy of youths.
The Festival has evolved alongside Singapore's development. Beginning in 1966 and formally launched on 18 July 1967 by the first President of Singapore, Mr Yusof Ishak, SYF's purpose was to help create a national identity and nurture the talents of our youth from different ethnic groups. Furthermore, the first SFY involved 24,000 students from primary and secondary schools in a two-week celebration.
It has metamorphosed into an annual kaleidoscopic showcase of talents involving more than 40,000 students in the month of July. SYF 2016 seeks to offer more opportunities for youths in Singapore beyond various backstage and off-stage performances.
It also provides them with rich, authentic opportunities for learning and growth.
SingPost's previous SYF stamp issue was in 1976 to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the SYF. That stamp set featured the essence of three popular youth activities – Inter-School Band, Track and Field, and Music and Dance.
