StampNews.com is glad to inform that Czech Post is to introduce its special stamp honoring "European Capital of Culture" ‒ a city designated by the European Union for a period of one year during which the city has the chance to present its cultural life and development to Europe. The 2015 European Capitals of Culture will be Plzeň, West Bohemia, and Mons, Belgium. The appointment is considered as an initiative to boost cultural development and changes in the appointed city.
The stamp features festive fireworks as an actual and symbolic expression of a display of ideas and events. St. Bartholomew's Cathedral depicted on the stamp is the main landmark of Plzeň commemorating the hundreds of years of its cultural tradition. The fountain in the background embodies the present-day city. The stamp is to be released on the 18th of February.
