According to info received by StampNews.com Jersey Post has prepared for releasing a special stamp issue celebrating the Island Games. The philatelic release consists of fourteen stamps that depict different kinds of sports, which will be represented at the Island Games 2015. The issue has been already designed and is to be put on sale on the 27th of June.

Since 1985, the Island Games have become an important fixture in the sporting calendars of island nations around the world. Originally intended as a one-off sporting celebration, over the years the Games have grown in popularity and stature to become a prestigious, biennial multi-sports event.

Having last hosted the event in 1997, the island of Jersey is proud to be home to the Island Games once again. From 27 June to 3 July 2015, Jersey will welcome 3,000 competitors from 24 islands and a total of 1,000 officials.

As has become customary, between 12 and 14 sporting events are selected by the host island. For 2015, the sports are: archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, golf, sailing and windsurfing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, volleyball and beach volleyball.
