StampNews.com is glad to inform that Brazil Post issued a set of stamps to celebrate the centenary of historical Post Office in Porto Alegre. The set consists of two stamp that were introduced by Brazil Post on the 29th of October.
The festivities began on the 30th of October by launching the stamps and a First Day Cover.
The festivity is to be attended by honorable guests. The event also has lectures read by historian Paul Robert Renner and architect and professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Cláudio Pereira Calovi.
Opened on April 21, 1914, the historic building of the Post Office, in Porto Alegre, was designed by architect Theo Wiederspahn who is also responsible for the building of the Hotel Majestic, Current Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana. Theo Wiederspahn was strongly influenced by German architecture from the beginning of the last century, marked by the tendency to Baroque forms.
The historic building housed various units of the Post Office, including a distribution center and the Philatelic Agency.
