StampNews.com got to know about an interesting program recently introduced in American schools. STAMPS TEACH, a program developed jointly by the American Philatelic Society and the Smithsonian National Postal Museum's Council of Philatelists, has successfully introduced nearly 10,000 children to the joy of stamps.
Providing classroom teachers with free lesson plans, worksheets, task cards, and postage stamps, the participating teachers have used these materials to teach a variety of subjects to students in 29 states.
To date, STAMPS TEACH has been funded through the generosity of American Stamp Dealers Association dealers, USPS and APS. Now STAMPS TEACH has the opportunity of qualifying for a $25,000 matching grant thanks to Turning Point Foundation. STAMPS TEACH needs the help of other philatelists.
The collectors can help to expand STAMPS TEACH and enable hundreds of thousands of children to experience the joy of stamps.
