Stamps celebrating 35th Anniversary UNPA Vienna

Coinciding with the opening of the 24th International Stamp Fair Essen on 8 May 2014, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) will issue a new Personalized Stamp Sheet to commemorate 35 years Vienna International Centre (VIC) as well as the 35th Anniversary of UNPA Vienna. The sheet was designed by Eduardo Sinoy (United Nations) and will be available for personalization at the UNPA Vienna Personalized Stamp Shop.

The sheet with ten different stamps in the denomination of Euro 0.70 features five etchings by the famous Austrian painter Kurt Regschek alternating with five photos of the different buildings of the VIC by Dean Calma (IAEA).

Kurt Regschek (1923-2005) was an Austrian painter and exponent of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. He left the group in 1965 and pursued his own path.

During an interview about his biography, he said: "I know that a biography is necessary, but I don't like it when artists turn themselves into works of art."

Dean Calma works at the International Atomic Energy Agency covering press photography and other major events.

The tabs next to the stamps contain the logos of the five Vienna headquarter based UN organizations UNOV, IAEA, UNODC, CTBTO and UNIDO alternating with an abstract image depicting "35 years United Nations in Vienna". The background design features an aerial view of the VIC, the United Nations emblem as well as the text "35 Years Vienna International Centre".
