Initially, the on-the-spot stamp design contest was meant for Valentine Day issue of 2014. But since most of the contest winners showed "love for the family", The Stamp Committee decided to feature the remaining winners as stamps for the National Family Week.
The Family Week celebration aims to highlight the importance of families, enhance understanding of their functions and problems, and focus attention on the rights and responsibilities of all family members. This was instituted by Presidential Proclamation No. 60 on September 28, 1992 by then President Fidel V. Ramos declaring the last full week of September every year as National Family Week.
The National Committee on the Filipino Family chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spearheads this celebration with partners from non- government organizations, government agencies, and the private sectors.
