Dangerous and gorgeous wild cats of Russia – new stamp release

As StampNews.com got to know that on the 1st August the Post Office of Russia issued the four stamps within the series "Fauna of Russia. Wildcats ".

The 36 species of the wild cat family are spread across most of the globe excluding the continents of Antarctica and Australia and some island groups.

Many species are to be found in similar habitats straddling several continents such as the Leopard which ranges from the southern tip of Africa, across Asia to China and various the species of Wildcat, which can be found in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The majority of species however, are indigenous to only one continent.

Currently in Russia eight cat species live: snow leopard (Snow Leopard), tiger, leopard (panther), Pallas' cat, lynx, Siberian cat (Bengal subspecies), jungle cat and leopard cat.

On the stamps such species are depicted: Pallas', wild, Siberian and jungle cats.

For this release a special first day cover was prepared.
