The Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) - one of the largest railways in the world, which runs through the territory of the Irkutsk region, the Trans-Baikal Territory, Amur Region, the Republic of Buryatia and Sakha (Yakutia), the Khabarovsk Territory.

Resolution on the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline was adopted in 1974 by the CPSU Central Committee and USSR Council of Ministers.

After it was constructed, BAM has been decided to task the national level open access to natural resources of the vast region; providing transit; creation of the shortest rail route East - West.

The stamp depicts locomotive "Ermak" with mountains in the background, on the sidelines of the post block is a map of the Baikal-Amur Mainline indicating railway stations.
