Winter Mood stamp from Germany

Winter Mood stamp from Germany

German Post issued a stamp creating winter mood.

Meteorological winter begins in our latitudes on 1 December, while thecalendrical winterfollows on 21 December. The calendrical beginning of winter denotes the day on which the sun on the northern hemisphere reaches its lowest altitude above the horizon.

This day lasts about seven hours and ten minutes at the shortest.

Against this early encroaching darkness the radiation of many small lights in front yards and in homes on Christmas trees gladden people. Especially at Christmas time, the lights play a very special role. The twinkle little light shimmering everywhere throws back the snow and the cold.

The design of the "winter mood" stampdepicts the magic of this warm atmosphericglow.
