On 17th September 2013 POST Greenland can celebrate its 75th anniversary.
On 17th September 1938 the then Danish Prime Minister Th. Stauning signed "Bekendtgorelse fra Statsministeriet angaende Postforbindelse mellem Gronland and Denmark samt Udlandet" (Act from the Prime Minister's office regarding post connection between Greenland and Denmark and abroad). This act is held as POST Greenland's birth certificate.
- We shall celebrate the anniversary with receptions in all our 16 post offices, where we will offer cake and hand out balloons, anniversary bags and much more to our customers, says Managing Director Per Svendsen.
Besides the reception there will be a number of other activities in connection with the anniversary:
KNR Radio will broadcast interviews with former and present employees each week for five weeks. The first interview was broadcast on 31st August.
In addition, POST Greenland is issuing a stamp denominated DKK 20.00, the postal rate for an airmail letter from Greenland to Europe up to 100 grams. The stamp is issued on the anniversary date 17th September and will be available in sheets of 20 stamps or in a beautiful souvenir sheet.
Engraver and illustrator Bertil Skov Jorgensen has created the stamp and souvenir sheet design, which is based on the sketches by the painter Harald Moltke for the first two stamps issued by POST Greenland in 1938. The stamps created by Moltke shows King Christian X and a polar bear.
