The new Personalities stamps by the post of Luxembourg are created by the young Luxembourgish artist and graphic designer Anne Melan and depict Nicolas Adames and Putty Stein.
Nicolas Adames (1813-1887) was the first bishop of Luxembourg, serving from 1870 to 1883. His official ordination in the cathedral on 25 December 1870 marked the high point of a long and fruitful career in the clergy.
Putty Stein (1888-1955) was author-composer-cabaret artist known as the father of the Luxembourg "chanson". He founded the "La Mansarde" cabaret, together with other artists, in 1915.
StampNews.com quotes below the words of the designer Anne Melan about the current issue: "The challenge was to do justice to the people involved. First of all, the hand-painted portraits have to resemble the individuals as closely as possible, while giving them a lively and friendly mien. Secondly, it was important to find an underlying representative unity for the individuals in the series."
