Byelorussian post issued a stamp "Defense of Brest Fortress" from the series "Chronicles of Victory".
A series of postage stamps "Chronicles of Victory" pays tribute to the unfading glory of the heroes that conquered the freedom of Belarus during the World War II. One of the heroic pages in the history of World War II is the defense of the Brest Fortress in 1941.
At dawn on June 22, 1941 Germany and its allies without declaring the war suddenly attacked the Soviet Union. Soviet troops were raised on alarm by the order of command, but on the territory of Brest Fortress the war itself became the alarm.
The defense of the Brest Fortress is a symbol of indomitable perseverance and courage of the Byelorussian defenders of the Motherland. On May 8, 1965 the Brest Fortress was awarded the honorary title "Hero-Fortress".
