Christmas 2012 stamps from Liechtenstein

This year's Liechtenstein Christmas issue is dedicated to angels. Figures of angels and graphic representations of God's messengers are also an essential part of the Christian Christmas. For the 2012 Christmas issue the Triesen graphic artist Stephanie Keiser has realized the four Archangels in bold artistic terms. A notably fine impression is achieved by gold print combined with gold foil.

Four archangels are illustrated on the stamps: Raphael, Michael, Gabriel and Uriel. In the Christian world "Raphael" (face value CHF 0.85) is called the Angel of Healing and is considered the patron saint of the sick and of apothecaries. As leader of the heavenly host and conqueror of the devil "Michael" (face value CHF 1.00) occupies a special position. "Gabriel" (face value CHF 1.40) in turn is considered to be the interpreter of visions and God's messenger. "Uriel" (face value CHF 1.90) is venerated only in Eastern churches and is mostly shown with sword and flame.
