The Thai Post has issued a set of stamps commemorating the 150th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Savang Vadhana.
The daughter of King Mongkut and Queen Piyamawadee Sripatcharindara Mata was born on Wednesday, September 10th, 1862. She was involved in many kinds of activities. In public health, her interest in medicine and the public led her to launch a mobile medical unit. In education, she promoted the development of human resources and granted scholarships to Thai students enabling them to study medicine and nursing abroad. She also gave financial support to schools in the country.
As her activities contributed so much to the country and the people, Her Majesty Queen Savang Vadhana will be nominated into the Project for the Celebration of Important Historical Figures and Events of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the years 2012-13.
The stamps depict:
1) royal portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sri Savarindira;
2) royal portrait of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkhla, the Prince Father, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sri Nagarindra, the Princess Mother;
3) royal portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sri Savarindira in the Royal Wedding Ceremony at Srapathum Palace, while bestowing water poured from a conch shell on His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's hands;
4) royal portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit signing their names on the marriage certificate at Phra Tamnak Yai, Srapathum Palace.
