This year's Europa Stamp competition ended earlier this month with a new record high of 5,576 number of public votes registered from all over the world, a sharp increase of 300% from last year's total number of votes due to the growing public interest and popularity.
Since 1993, PostEurop has been responsible for issuing of EUROPA stamps each year which remains a symbol of Europe's desire for closer integration and cooperation. Philately experts within the Philately working group selected for 2011 the over-arching theme "Forest", in collaboration with the United Nations programme, International Year of the Forest.
"I am extremely pleased with the overall outcome of the campaign and particularly the quadruple number of public votes registered this year from last year. This shows the growing interest and popularity of EUROPA Stamps. The 56 entries received this year showed endless creativity and high quality based on the theme. We can say that competition amongst the entries was close," commented Botond Szebeny, PostEurop Secretary General.
The top-three winners with the highest number of public votes will be announced at PostEurop's Plenary Assembly on 12 October 2011 in Istanbul.
