Canada issues Duke and Duchess of Cambridge royal wedding stamp

Canada will be the first commonwealth country to issue commemorative wedding day stamps of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, just in time for the couple's visit.

Canada Post on Tuesday is issuing 10 million stamps and 250,000 souvenir sheets of the royal wedding. They feature the duchess waving, flashing a modest smile in her famous laced Sarah Burton wedding gown, with the prince next to her in his red, Irish Guards Mounted Officer's uniform.

"From beginning to end, stamps usually take 18 months to prepare, but this only took one month," said Canada Post spokesperson Anick Losier.

The stamps were approved by the couple and Queen Elizabeth.

Just two months prior, Canada Post launched a commemorative engagement stamp featuring the duchess in her popular blue Issa dress and 18-carat sapphire engagement ring. So far, five million engagement stamps have been sold.
