PhilPost features national martial art and sport ‘Arnis’ in stamps

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) recently released special stamps featuring the new National Martial Sport of the Philippines - 'Arnis.'

According to PhilPost, the special stamp issue illustrates the movement and art of Arnis which promotes the artistry and ingenuity of the Filipino.

PhilPost Postage and Philatelic Department manager Lenie San Diego said PhilPost Corp. hopes to contribute in the propagation of the sport not only in the Philippines, but throughout the world with the release of the special stamps.

San Diego added that the universal appeal of the special stamps will also boost the popularity of Arnis as martial art and combat sports in the global arena.

Arnis was declared the new National Martial and Sport of the Philippines in 2009 by virtue of Republic Act 9850.

Arnis Philippines (ARPI) is the umbrella organization of the different arnis clubs and chapter in the country. The sport is also being supported by the Department of Education (DepEd), wherein students can participate through physical education activities and even in tournaments in the different schools and universities in the country.
