On 21 March, 2011 the Italian Post jointly with the Vatican Philatelic Office issued a minisheet commemorating 150 years of the Unity of Italy. In 1861 the Kingdom of Italy was created by the unification of Italy under the influence of the Kingdom of Sardinia which is its legal predecessor State. It existed until 1946 when the Italians opted for a republican constitution.
The stamp reproduces the vintage photo depicting a view of Piazza del Popolo in Rome, with the Flaminio obelisk and, the twin churches of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto in background.
The stamp is surrounded by a linear framework with the colors of the Italian flag, at top left and right logos of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy and the Italian Post are reproduced respectively.
