The Guatemala Post has issued a series of stamps dedicated to traditional children's games. The stamps feature cup-and-ball, kite, yoyo and top.
Cup-and-ball is a traditional children's toy, consisting of a wooden cup with a handle, and a ball which is attached to a string, which is attached to the cup. The cup is shaped to fit the ball.
A kite is a tethered aircraft. The necessary lift that makes the kite wing fly is generated when air flows over and under the kite's wing, producing low pressure above the wing and high pressure below it.
The yo-yo is a popular toy consisting of a length of string tied at one end to a flat spool. It is played by holding the free end of the string and pulling at it so as to cause the spool to turn whilst suspended in mid-air, either taking up or releasing the string.
A top is a toy that can be spun on an axis, balancing on a point. This motion is produced by holding the axis firmly while pulling a string or twisting a stick or pushing an auger.
