Latvia has issued a postage stamp featuring Leccinum scabrum (brown cap boletus).
Leccinum scabrum is an edible mushroom. It is widespread in Europe as well as elsewhere in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring only in mycorrhizal association with birch trees.
Leccinum scabrum fruits from June to October. It is especially enjoyable pickled in brine or vinegar. This mushroom is used also in mixed dishes, fried or steamed.
