Oscar Wilde and Jonathan Swift books on Irish stamps

An Post has issued two stamps based on the theme of Children's Books, the chosen topic for this year's Europa series. The books selected for this issue were The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde and Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, both of whom are much-loved and renowned authors in Ireland and internationally.

P.J. Lynch was commissioned to illustrate the stamps and first day cover. The first day cover image features a light illustration of rooftops, with the book titles and names of the authors overlaid. P.J. had previously illustrated these classic children's books, and has a long personal interest in this subject matter, having undertaken a project at Art College, where he first illustrated Oscar Wilde stories.
