Tourism in France: ‘The Papal Palace in Avignon’

This stamp dedicated to tourism describes one of the most beautiful architectual monuments in France.

Built in the year 1335 by two Popes founders Benedict XII and Clement VI The Papal Palace in Avignon is the symbol of Church ascendancy over the Western Christendom in XIV century. Surrounded by earth mounds, with four gigantic tours on each side, today the monument is the biggest gothic palace in the world and one of the most visited historical places in France.
