China launches special stamps for year of ox

China Post has released the latest addition to its zodiac stamp series.

The stamp features the painted image of an ox, the zodiac animal of the upcoming Chinese New Year. Its face value is set at 1.2 yuan. It has been hotly anticipated among stamp collectors. That's because the ox is a symbol of prosperity and good luck in Chinese culture.

People woke up early on Monday in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, queuing up to purchase the new stamp.

In 1980, China Post issued the first zodiac stamp. Since then, 29 stamps have been designed and released. Some rare editions have appreciated more than 2,000 times over their face value.
