First class ant makes rare appearance

Creepy crawlies are not the most celebrated of animals but a bug that's close to home will be taking pride of place on people's mail.

A new set of Royal Mail stamps featuring endangered insects went on sale on Tuesday, and includes the very rare red-barbed ant (formica nufibarbis).

The species is only found in Chobham Common and on the Isles of Scilly.

The insects were photographed by the Natural History Museum, London, and are from its own collection of 28 million insect specimens.
