Concetto Marchesi – Master of Liberty and Gentleman of Latin

The Republic of San Marino intends to celebrate Concetto Marchesi, eminent Italian intellectual figure with an international appeal and champion in the fight for freedom, with the issue of a philatelic series made up by a €1,00 value.

In the stamp created by Irio Ottavio Fantini, the scholar's face stands out, side by side with the portrait of Seneca, author of the motto "Speravit libertatem futuram".

In the background can be seen the detail of a Latin epigraph, as symbol of a lifetime's study dedicated to the culture of the Latin world, which he contributed to keep alive and up-to-date: a world which preceded us and which forms the basis of that which we are today.
