A stamp of recognition for the University of Alberta’s centenary

On March 7th, 2008, Canada Post will pay tribute to the University of Alberta's centenary by issuing a domestic rate (52-cent) stamp.

The creation of the University of Alberta (U of A) was closely tied to the establishment of Alberta as a province. Alexander Rutherford, Alberta's first premier, introduced the University Act in 1906, during the first sitting of the Alberta legislature.

The stamp features the school's Dentistry/Pharmacy Centre rendered in green and golden yellow, showcasing the university in a contemporary illustration style. The University's signature colours of green and gold were adopted in the fall of 1908 to reflect the gold of autumn leaves and the deep green of the abundant spruces and pines surrounding campus.
