Taiwan Post Sends New Year Greetings

Each year Taiwan Post releases a stamp featuring the Chinese Zodiac, based on the upcoming year's animal sign. The upcoming lunar New Year falls on February 7, 2008 and is the wu-zih year, also known as the year of the rat.

To welcome the New Year, Taiwan Post has released a set of two New Year's Greeting postage stamps, as well as a miniature sheet.

Designed by Arteck Design and Consulting Co., Ltd., the set of stamps use simple colors and ink wash techniques from Chinese paintings to portray the character and posture of the rat. The miniature sheet features a well known Chinese folktale of a mouse who takes a wife, as well as Chinese imagery of house shrews and flowers, symbols of wealth for the upcoming year.
