Ireland’s Viking Heritage – Skuldelev 2

On 7 August An Post were proud to issue a 55c stamp to mark Ireland's Viking Heritage and the reconstruction of the Skuldelev 2.

The stamp features the huge Viking ship Skuldelev 2, which was excavated in 1962 at the bottom of the Roskilde Fjord in Denmark. The longboat has been fully reconstructed following a three year restoration project, and a crew of 65 men and women will be attempting to sail the ship from Denmark back to Dublin, where the ship was built.

The ship is due to dock in Dubin on 14 August where it will be on display for two days before being moved to the National Museum of Ireland.
