New South Africa issue. 1956 Women’s March commemorated

South Africa have issued a new stamp sheet to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Women's March to the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

20,000 women from all parts of South Africa marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 to campaign against the pass laws and influx control, which effectively turned their husbands into migrant workers.

The sheet consists of a photo taken by South African photographer Peter Magubane and features campaigners Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Sophia Williams and Rahima Moosa.
