Taking cardiac care to heart… Canada Post celebrates 50 years of care by the Montreal Heart Institute

When the Montreal Heart Institute opened its doors in 1954, a heart attack usually meant, at best, a long hospital stay, an even longer rehabilitation period and a lifetime of worry. Today, thanks in large part to the Institute's world-renowned research, heart attacks can now be prevented before they occur, hospital stays are measured in days and most patients continue to live life to its fullest. Canada Post is proud to mark the Montreal Heart Institute's 50th anniversary with a new stamp to be issued on September 15, 2004.

The Institute was the first hospital in Canada to specialize in cardiology and today is the largest cardiology centre in Canada and one of the most important in the world, both in terms of the number of its activities and the quality of its research.
