On October 22, Canada Post will pay tribute to Canadian artist Jean Paul Lemieux by issuing three new stamps. A 49c domestic-rate stamp, featuring Lemieux's Autoportrait (Self-Portrait), will open the show. The same image will accompany two others on a luxurious souvenir-sheet grouping three stamps at three different denominations: one U.S. rate (80c) stamp featuring Les Noces de juin (A June Wedding), and an international rate ($1.40) stamp reproducing L'ete (Summertime).
Lemieux maintained that painting was an exploration, a trip of discovery. His arduous trek of re-evaluation and re-creation always ended with a finished work that was a revelation and, often, far removed from what he had in mind when he first stood before the easel.
