Pink Floyd were an English rock band who earned recognition for their psychedelic music in the late 1960s and, as they evolved in the 1970s, for their progressive rock music.

To mark 50 years since the group turned professional Britain's postal is issuing a series of postage stamps that are highly recommended by StampNews.com.

A set of six stamps, which will be available starting July 7, shows the memorable cover art of several of the band's albums, including "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" (1967); "Atom Heart Mother" (1970); "The Dark Side of the Moon" (1973); "Wish You Were Here" (1975); "Animals" (1977); and "The Endless River" (2014).

A stamp featuring "The Division Bell", Pink Floyd's 1994 album, was previously issued in 2010.

Moreover, there will be a miniature sheet of four stamps depicting Pink Floyd's live shows throughout the group's history-including performances from London's UFO Club in 1966 and the band's tours supporting "The Dark Side of the Moon", "The Wall", and "The Division Bell" albums.

"Few bands in the history of rock have managed to carve out a career as rich and expansive as that of Pink Floyd", Royal Mail said in a statement. "From their blues-based psychedelic roots, the members of the outfit have created some of modern music's most totemic and inspirational albums, with ground-breaking live performances to match".

The announcement of the new stamps comes as Pink Floyd is planning to reissue its albums on vinyl starting on June 3.
