The human heart is one of the most vital organs in the human body. World heart day, which was founded in the year 2000 by the World Heart Federation, is celebrated in the entire world on September 29th. Every year there is a focus on a new theme, and this year the theme is creating a better environment for a healthier heart.
The goal is to inform people about heart diseases and strokes, given that around 17 million people die from heart disease in the world every year. At least 80 % of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided by leading a healthy life and excluding the four main risk factors – tobacco, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and alcohol abuse.
In the battle against heart disease the most important step is to educate population in recognizing the risk factors. Croatian Post Mostar joins in spreading awareness about cardiovascular diseases by issuing a commemorative postage stamp “World Heart Day”.
