Are you nature enthusiast? If yes, this particular stamps issue by MaltaPost is definitely worth your appreciation.
StampNews.com is glad to introduce to our readers' attention a special release of a philatelic miniature sheet by MaltaPost bearing four stamps and themed "Endangered Species".
This issue is intended to mark initiatives by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which, since 1961 has sought to conserve wildlife by engaging science and working closely with local communities.
The MaltaPost issue illustrates the Shearwater, a species that is commonly seen along the Maltese shores. The common name, 'Shearwater' describes the birds' habit of gliding on stiff wings along the troughs of waves. In Maltese the bird is known as "Ċiefa".
Spending their whole lives at sea and approaching land only at night, these birds nest in Malta's remote cliffs away from developed areas. Scopoli's Shearwaters are recognized by their grey-brown back, contrasting with a white under side and a large yellow bill.
