StampNews.com hurries to share the latest and the most exciting auction news with our readers.
This piece of info concerns a rare stamp collection, the estimated value of which was £20,000 and that fetched a huge £94,000 at auction.
The incredible set was uncovered in a routine house clearance by Colchester auctioneers Reeman Dansie, based on Wyncolls Road. Hundreds of bidders battled it out to get their hands on the stamps ‒ with one individual lot, an unrecorded Victorian stamp, selling for £14,000.
Collectables expert Michael Bowles was stunned when he found the stamps and said it was an incredible discovery.
He said: "Collectors and dealers gathered at the saleroom with more than 800 registered online bidders from all over the world. The sum was absolutely astonishing. We had originally estimated the collection was worth £20,000 but I always thought it would go for more and it did. It was incredible ‒ an absolutely fantastic sale for us, one of our best ever. I think it did better in our saleroom than it would have done even in London. That is because it was an absolutely genuine lot, completely fresh to the market which had been untouched for sixty years".
