Apex are pleased to be able to offer one of the finest GB sections, with some significant rarities, in our upcoming Public Auction 151, to be held at our usual venue at Lingfield Park Racecourse on Sunday 20th November.
The GB lots include a page from the 1890 Stamp Committee book and the unissued 1/- purple (Lot 591) from the same source, one of the scarcest of the ‘Abnormals’ (Lot 538), the 9d ‘hair lines’ SG 88 mint, one of only 11 recorded unused and a superb example of the 1841 1d on ‘Dickinson silk thread’ paper.
Also we have a block of 4 of the 1887 £1 green used (one of only 3 known blocks), a u/m 1912 Cyprus green (Lot 690) and mint marginal 1935 2 1/2d Prussian blue (Lot 762). Watermark varieties include 1924 2 1/2d without wmk and u/m examples of the 1924 10d and PUC 2 1/2d inverted. There is also a major QE2 error in the shape of the 1997 20p Golden Jubilee missing face value (cat £25,000).
Very strong British Africa features in the Commonwealth section with mint and used high values from Nyasaland and Sierra Leone, Rhodesia Double Heads, Zanzibar varieties and mint high values plus superb KUT mint high values including Lot 980, including 1922 Specimens.
There is a mint and used Falklands Centenary £1 and the good 5/- shade mint, Gibraltar £5 and scarce varieties from British Levant. A recent trip to Malta resulted in the purchase of a very important Malta collection with an abundance of scarce material, fresh to the market. There are comprehensive 1/2d ‘yellows’, most items in mint blks of 4, a marginal u/m example of 10/- SG 96 (Lot 1060), Die Proofs, errors and varieties and comprehensive Postal History including high values on cover.
