StampNews.com ids glad to inform that Polish Post issued a special stamp honoring the life and work of a great Polish visionary artist Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (or Witkacy). The item was released and put into circulation on the 24th of February.
Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (or Witkacy) is considered one of the most original, versatile and visionary Polish artists of the 20th century. This exhibition presents a selection of his photographs taken between 1910–1938, when the artist created his major works in painting, theatre, literature, and philosophy. For Witkacy, photography was one of the various mediums he used in investigating his obsession in understanding existential mystery.
He believed that the ability to sense metaphysical feelings was a key measure in the understanding of personhood, and his photographs demonstrate his ongoing attempt to capture authentic moments, at a time when photography was a complex and time consuming process… As he himself wrote: The camera and the present plates, working faster than the average human brain, are equipped to grasp the subtlest quiver of the soul, expressed in changes in the facial expressions.
