Ingrid Bergman (1915-1982) was one of the brightest stars of the international film world. She won three Oscars – two for best actress in a leading role for Gaslight in 1944 and Anastasia in 1956 – along with the hearts of the film loving general public.
Her career started in Sweden and peaked in Hollywood, and the American Film Institute ranks her as the fourth greatest star of all time in American movies.
Ingrid Bergman was a natural common denominator for PostNord and the US Postal Service in this commemorative stamps project that started with a set of Greta Garbo stamps ten years ago.
"With these 'Ingrid Bergman Centenary' stamps, we have the pleasure once again of presenting, in partnership with the US Postal Service, very beautiful stamps featuring one of the greatest Swedish actresses of all time. We chose the value SEK 14, the postage rate for international letters, to help show a face of Sweden to the world via many of the millions of letters that are sent to foreign destinations", said Britt-Inger Hahne, Head of Stamps at PostNord.
