In an effort to promote stamp collecting and to heighten awareness of stamp culture, Korea Post has designated an annual "philately week" where they hold a Stamp Exhibition.

This year, PHILAKOREA 2014 World Stamp Exhibition will be held from August 7th to August 12th, at Hall A, COEX.

During the exhibition visitors can meet various cultures through these stamps of the world and also enjoy rare world renowned stamps. In addition there will be a musical about stamps as well as a wide variety of hands-on programs such as carrying out a mission, making a photo stamp, a stamp quiz and writing a love letter among others.

Philately Week special stamps are to feature the winning designs of the 19th International Postage Stamp Design Contest organized last year. CHO Hyeon-ji (Korea), the grand prize winner in the general category, delightfully imagines through the work "Creation of new history" that children around the world would create new humankind with stamps from all over the world. “Train travel” by PARK Eun-young (Korea) is the gold prize winner in the general category.

This work expresses the message of learning history through stamps using the collage technique. The grand prize winner in the youth category, 10-year old, CHOI Min-seo (Korea), says, the work "A letter containing the thoughts of a bird" conveys the message that it would be great if the bird sent a letter containing their thoughts because birds always deliver letters for other people. "Growing up with stamps" by KIM Tae-yeol (Korea), the gold prize winner in the youth category describes a sheep family of which a young lamb grows into an adult sheep while enjoying stamp collecting. Along with the commemorative stamps a souvenir sheet is to be issued.
