Australia Post is marking the christening of His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge with the release of one domestic base-rate (60c) stamp and one international rate ($2.60) stamp.

The stamps feature the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with Prince George following the christening ceremony last year and will be available from Tuesday 7 January 2014.

"Australia Post is delighted to mark the christening of His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, with this stamp issue that captures this milestone in the life of the future king," said Australia Post Philatelic Manager Michael Zsolt.

"We expect this commemorative stamp issue will be well received as was the Royal Baby instant stamp sheetlet celebrating the birth of Prince George last July. We encourage stamp collectors and followers of royal and special events to put their orders in early to avoid disappointment."

The christening of His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was an intimate affair, with less than 30 guests. It was held in the small Chapel Royal in St James's Palace on 23 October 2013 and was attended by his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and his grandfather, the Prince of Wales. Other guests included his mother's family and his great-grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince George was wrapped in a replica of the christening robe used by the royal family since 1841. He was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury and his seven godparents included his father's cousin, Zara, friends of his parents, and a close friend of his grandmother, the Princess of Wales.

There have already been six British monarchs named George – the last being the Queen's father, George VI. Prince George will be third in line to the throne after Prince

Charles and Prince William.

The designer of the stamps is Jo Mure, Australia Post Design Studio. The stamps feature an official photograph by Jason Bell/Camera Press London.

There are two special products associated with this stamp issue – a prestige postal and numismatic cover (PNC) featuring a Royal Mint (United Kingdom) five pound coin. This product is a limited edition to 2,000. The other PNC features a Royal Australian Mint 50 cent coin.

Other associated products available are a miniature sheet, first day cover, stamp pack, set of two maxicards, sheetlet of five $2.60 self-adhesive stamps and a booklet of 10 x 60c self-adhesive stamps.
