The National Heritage series, which illustrates the works of art is to be enriched with the tapestry dedicated to the Death of Dido. The whole tapestry ornamentation is depicted on the souvenir sheet.
The Death of Dido is made of wool and silk and describes the tragic ending of Queen Dido. Dido, Queen of Carthage, was abandoned by Aeneas and killed herself in despair. On the tapestry this dramatic Virgilian episode is depicted with virtuosity, neglecting neither the drama of the moment nor the sensuality of the abandoned queen.
The National Heritage stamp series commemorates a variety of masterpieces and antiques: table clocks, porcelain, ancient manuscripts and tapestries from the various Royal Palaces of Spain.
