To mark the twentieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Latvia and Georgia, Solvita Aboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima (Latvian Parliament) and Teimuraz Janjalia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia in the Republic of Latvia, opened the presentation dedicated to the joint stamp issue of the two countries designed in honor of this event. The presentation of the new stamp was held on March 28, 2014 at the Grand Vestibule of the Saeima, Riga.

The new stamp has been designed by the Georgian artist Georg Kartvelishvili and it depicts the significant symbols of independence of the two nations: the Freedom Monument in Riga, the capital of Latvia, and the Mother of Georgia Statue in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

March 11, 1993 is regarded as the date of establishment of the diplomatic relations between Latvia and Georgia. The joint stamp issue of the two countries was initiated by the Embassy of Georgia in 2013, and the concept of the new stamp was presented at the Saeima last year.
