StampNews.com found out, that Ukrposhta has issued a postage stamp featuring the main postal monument of the country, The Postal Central Point of Ukraine, which is also known as the Distance Mark and is situated on Kyiv's Independence Square. This postage stamp is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Ukrposhta foundation. It was cancelled in the Central Post Office in Kyiv on the 25th March 2014 on the specially issued First Day Cover.

The design of the postage stamp was developed by Mykola Kochubey, a Distinguished Artist of Ukraine and a winner of several renowned international philatelic contests.

The column with a globe surrounded by five carrier pigeons pictured on the stamp looks like the emblem of the Universal Postal Union, which Ukraine joined in May 1947. The official UPU emblem features five messengers – postmen of five continents, passing letters to each other around the globe.

It was Ukrposhta that initiated setting up the monument "The Postal Central Point of Ukraine" on Kyiv's Independence Square in 1996. It was placed in front of the Central Post Office entrance to determine distances from the main postal facility of the country. The Mark indicates geographical coordinates and distances to Ukrainian regional centers, capitals of other countries etc.

"The issue of stamps commemorating such significant topics is just another evidence of the important and useful mission performed by the national postal operator. Ukrposhta has been uniting people by different communication channels for 20 years already. The carrier pigeon is one of the most ancient types of 'airmail', very popular due to its convenience and speed. In a wish to honour this important means of postal communication, Ukrposhta has immortalized it for the history of the humankind," said Pavlo Bogdanov, Ukrposhta Marketing and Communication Director.

"The 20th anniversary of Ukrposhta foundation" postage stamp and First Day Cover are available in all Ukrposhta post offices. The circulation of the postage stamp is 190 000, its face value – 2.00 UAH.
