A famed opera in China, the Huangmei opera can trace its origins to rural areas among Anhui, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces some 200 years ago. A large number of good plays have been staged and numerous star singers mushrooming since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Of them, grand plays Fairy Couple and The Emperor's Female Son-in-Law as well as the short one Collecting Grass for Pigs has witnessed Huangmei's historic transformation from an obscure local genre into a popular opera nationwide.

Featuring a beautiful tone, the opera is catchy and expressive. All its plays are about reality and life and have thus won the heart of the audience. It was inscribed on the list of China's national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.
China National Philatelic Corporation will issue a FDC and a commemorative cancellation respectively.
