London – Apex Public Auction 135 will be held at Lingfield Park Racecourse on Sunday November 16th with 1150 lots going under the hammer.
The sale comprises all world and one country collections (in particular China, Falklands, French Cols, India and States, Japan, Netherlands, Sarawak and Spain), plus around 150 boxes, many from genuine 'house clearances'.
A strong GB section features many noteworthy rarities. These include [lot 530] 1d black plate 11 with red Maltese Cross, very scarce [only around 30 examples are thought to exist], with RPS Cert, cat £40,000, est £6000 to £7000, [lot 616] 1867 10/- greenish grey mint with original gum [small crease] with PTS Cert, cat £60,000, est £10,000 to £12,000 and [lot 626] mint £5 orange, a fine and fresh example, est £4000 to £4500. Also [lot 723], 1929 PUC 2 1/2d fine mint with inverted watermark with an estimate of £1500 to £1800 and [lot 715] 1915 DLR 10/- bright blue Seahorse u/m with RPS Cert, est £2000 to £2500.
From the Commonwealth we have 2 scarce Australia items, [lot 814] 1927 Parliament in mint vertical pair, imperf between, one of only 22 such pairs, est £1500 to £1800 and [lot 816], 1952 2/6d brown in used strip of 4 with 'Crown to left of CA' in watermark, a rarity, cat £22,000, est £7500 to £8500. Also the key mint stamp from Nauru, [lot 1031] Waterlow 10/- indigo blue [only 60 can exist], cat £11,000, est £5000 to £6000 and from Papua, [lot 1070], 1907 Lakatoi 2/6d in used pair with vertical watermark on thick paper [SG 45], extremely scarce, cat £19,000+, est £6000 to £7000.
