A stamp with the image of Tom of Finland is to appear in September

As Stampnews.com found out, in September–October 2014, Itella Posti will output seven new series of stamps, which will be designed in 33 different variants. This great collection will include the stamps that depict male drawings by Tom of Finland, autumnal yard and garden scenes painted by Urpo Martikainen, and Jaakko Tähti’s photos of Finnish bridges. Thus Finland will be a main theme of this set of stamps.

The autumn’s stamp series begins with Tom of Finland, who is considered to be one of the most famous Finnish artists all around the world. His drawings are considered to be masculine gaining iconic status in such a genre. His creativity influenced a lot of other genres such as pop culture and fashion. During the whole career Tom of Finland created ca 3,500 drawings, two of which are to be depicted stamp sheet. They were selected by graphic artist Timo Berry, who designed the stamp, and Susanna Luoto, the Finnish representative of the foundation named after Tom of Finland operating in Los Angeles.

Another artist, beside Tom of Finland, is Touko Laaksonen , whose profile is represented in the exhibition Sealed with a Secret – Correspondence of Tom of Finland, which will display the busy correspondence of Laaksonen from the early 1940s to his dying year, 1991.

Stampnews.com got to know, that the traditional autumnal stamps, in turn, will depict nostalgic Finnish yards and gardens in, for instance, Mikkeli. The stamps are the work of Urpo Martikainen, who many know as an anchorman and whose watercolors are the basis of the stamps.

It is promised that in September a colorful booklet of stamps depicting different signs of the sky will also be represented to the attention of the public. It will consist of excellent self-adhesive stamps in different sizes and shapes, designed by graphic artist Nina Rintala.

As Stampnews.com found out, Itella Posti Oy will also work out a great selection of stamps devoted to centennial year of Finnish independence. This series of stamps designed by graphic artist Sami Saramäki, depicts the everyday routine in Finland, influenced by such processes as migration, developing technology and globalization.

In October a 100-piece roll of stamps represent bridges and waters will be released. These stamps contain images of Finnish bridges in different times of the year and day, photographed by Jaakko Tähti.

Traditional Christmas stamps are also to appear soon. They are designed by well-known and talented book illustrator Kristina Segercrantz, and the graphic design of the Christmas stamps comes from Olavi Hankimo.

According to the info, got by Stampnews.com, Itella Posti Oy will be publishing the Christmas stamps and other stamps at the opening of the Helsinki Book Fair at Messukeskus.
