PostNL issued a stamp celebrating the Stamp Day 2013. The stamp portrays Queen Wilhelmina in profile. The stamp designer Ingmar Birzawas inspired by an airmail stamp from 1931 created by Piet Zwart. In 1931 the three royal stamps by Piet Zwart using the royal photographs represented a real groundbreaking stamp design. To embody the design 1931 on a new stamp for the Stamp Day 2013 Ingmar Birza studied sketches and pencil drawings made by Piet Zwart in 1931. As Birza mentioned, after more than eighty years the sketches' paper was pretty yellow, thus he maintained this yellowing on the stamp to bring history more visible. For the right part of the stamp a fully typographic solution was chosen by Birza, the same that Piet Zwart had in this area.
